Get Started
Install & set up
Install Ultra Whisper, grant permissions, and finish first-run setup.
Install
- Download Ultra Whisper from the download page.
- Move Ultra Whisper.app to your Applications folder and open it.
- If a confirmation dialog appears the first time you open it, click Open.
Grant permissions
Ultra Whisper needs two macOS permissions. Both are requested on first run, and you can review them any time under Settings → Permissions.
- Microphone — required to record your voice.
- Accessibility — required for the global hotkey and for pasting. The global recording shortcut only works while another app is focused when Ultra Whisper is trusted for Accessibility, and pasting won't work without it.
If the hotkey or paste doesn't work, it's usually the Accessibility permission. Toggle it off and on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then relaunch the app.
First-run model download
The default local voice model downloads automatically the first time you launch the app. To use any other model, download it from the Voice Models screen. Models you haven't downloaded can't be selected in a Profile.
Your first dictation
- Focus any text field in any app.
- Tap the right Option key (the default recording shortcut).
- Speak, then tap again to stop.
- Your transcript is pasted where the cursor is.
You can change the shortcut from the Home screen or Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts — see Recording window & shortcuts.
